Dr. Tolgahan Alpaydin, Surgeon

During my approximately 7 years of residency at the Plastic Surgery Clinic of Ege University, I actively received training in all areas of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. During this period, I also performed extremity replantation and reconstructions in the field of hand and microsurgery. I spent about 2 years in contact with the Hand and Microsurgery Hospital, participating in surgeries related to these specialties. This training continued at the American Hospital's Plastic Surgery Clinic, where I worked directly alongside Dr. Ayan Gülgönen.

Based on the references and work I had, I received a scholarship from the United States and worked as a fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is aesthetic plastic surgery?

Aesthetic plastic surgery is a specialized surgical field that includes modern cosmetic surgery, offering you options by using computer simulations to illustrate and inform you about possible surgery outcomes.

Who will I speak to during my first visit?

During your first visit, you will speak with your aesthetic plastic surgeon.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Some people find it helpful to bring a list of questions they want to ask. The most important thing is to ask any questions you have. If you have old photos of yourself showing the look you desire, you may also share them with us.

What should I do if I have more questions after my first consultation?

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have more questions or concerns after your initial consultation.

When will I find out the cost of surgery?

You will find out the cost after your consultation. The price depends on the type of surgery and is determined by the combination of surgery fees, anesthesia, hospital, and implant costs.

What should I do to prepare for surgery?

There are a few important things to consider when preparing for surgery. Firstly, aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as Aprol, Apranax, Majezik) should be stopped at least one week before surgery, as they thin the blood and increase the risk of bleeding and bruising. Alcohol should also be avoided for the same reason. It is recommended that you refrain from eating or drinking for eight hours before the surgery unless otherwise directed. It is also a good idea to arrange for someone to accompany you on the day of the surgery. Bring a list of any allergies, medications, or treatments you are currently undergoing and inform us of them before the surgery.

Should I take my prescribed medications before surgery?

In general, you should continue taking your prescribed medications on the day of surgery. However, there are rare cases where some medications should be discontinued, so it’s a good idea to discuss this with your anesthesiologist in advance.

What should I do if I have a skin infection before surgery?

If you notice a skin infection in the area of the surgery, you can use antibacterial ointments. If the infection doesn’t subside with this treatment, the surgery may be postponed. Avoid surgery if you have a viral infection like herpes (cold sores) as well.

What should I do with my contact lenses?

For your safety, you should remove your contact lenses before the surgery. Also, inform your doctor that you wear contact lenses.

When can I get out of bed after surgery?

The time it takes for you to get out of bed will depend on the type of surgery and the anesthesia used. Your doctor will provide detailed instructions on what to do. It’s important to stay motivated and actively contribute to your healing process to speed up recovery.

When should I take my medications after surgery?

After surgery, you will typically be prescribed antibiotics and painkillers. Be sure to check for any allergies to these medications, and take them as directed by your doctor.

What should I do if a problem occurs after office hours?

After surgery, you can contact us via the provided phone numbers to reach your doctor or the surgical team. You can also reach us through our office phone numbers.

How long should I wear a bandage or corset after surgery?

After some surgeries, a corset or bandage is applied to reduce swelling and bruising. However, it’s important that it’s not too tight to avoid skin folds. If the corset becomes loose over time, it should be replaced with a better-fitting one under medical supervision.

What will my diet be like after surgery?

After certain surgeries, particularly those involving the mouth, solid foods should be avoided during the first week. Instead, liquid foods like soup and smoothies are recommended. Gradually increase your intake as you recover.

When can I return to work after surgery?

Depending on the type of surgery, your doctor will recommend an appropriate period for returning to work. Generally, you can start light office work after about a week or ten days.

How long does recovery take after surgery?

The recovery time varies depending on the surgery. Minor procedures such as Botox or fillers often have a shorter recovery time, while larger surgeries, like breast augmentation or tummy tucks, can take several weeks. Your doctor will provide you with a detailed healing timeline.

What is Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery? What Does it Do?

We will introduce this branch of surgery by dividing it into “Plastic and Reconstructive” Surgery and “Aesthetic” Surgery.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (Reconstruction and Repair Surgery):
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is a branch of surgery focused on correcting congenital or acquired anomalies, shape and function disorders, and improving body image. The word “Plastic” comes from the Greek word “plasticos,” meaning “to shape” or “to mold.” “Reconstructive” is a Latin term meaning “to rebuild.”

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery deals with any surgical problem that occurs on the surface of the body. These problems may be congenital, traumatic, or acquired. For example, congenital issues include cleft lip and palate, syndactyly (webbed fingers), vascular masses (such as hemangiomas); traumatic problems include burns, facial injuries from traffic accidents, cuts, and organ loss; acquired problems include skin and soft tissue tumors, chronic wounds. This surgical discipline also deals with losses, deformities, and pathological events (tumors, cysts, infections, etc.) in bones (especially facial and hand bones) and cartilage structures (such as ear and nasal cartilage).

In addition to classical surgical methods, plastic surgery may involve microsurgery, laser systems, endoscopy, and various chemical agents and medications.

In summary, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery works to repair any defects (gaps) affecting the skin, subcutaneous tissue, and bones on the entire body surface. The fundamental principle is to repair the lost tissue with similar tissues.
